Best Final Expense Insurance for Cigar Smokers

cigar and red wine

Do you smoke cigars? Have you shopped around for a final expense burial plan only to find that smoker rates are not very affordable? If so, we have good news for you.

Cigar smokers can get immediate coverage and qualify for non-smoker rates on final expense burial insurance!

There are only a few final expense companies that offer immediate coverage for cigar smokers at non-smoker rates and in this article, we’ll talk about the companies that we utilize for our cigar-smoking clients.

What is Burial Insurance For Cigar Smokers?

Burial insurance for cigar smokers is a whole-life insurance policy offered by a Final Expense life insurance company that offers nonsmoker rates to cigar smokers.

These policies are no different than a policy that a non-smoker would get and has all of the same benefits and features.

They offer level benefits with same-day coverage and also build cash value that can be borrowed against.

The benefit amounts range from $1,500 to $35,000, and issue ages are 50 years old to 85 years old depending on the company.

Best 2 Final Expense Companies for Cigar Smokers

When it comes to rates for cigar smokers, there are two final expense insurance companies that we feel are the best at issuing low-cost final expense burial insurance.

1. Prosperity Life Group

2. Americo

We use these two companies as our go-to final expense companies when writing burial insurance policies for our cigar-smoking clients.

Both companies are A-rated by A.M.Best and offer same-day coverage (no 2-year waiting period).

Prosperity Life Insurance Group is a subsidiary of Shenandoah Life Insurance Company and SBLI USA with an aggregate of $18 billion of life insurance in force, $2.7 billion of assets, and over 350,000 policies.

They offer affordable whole life insurance, term life insurance, supplemental insurance, universal life, and asset accumulation products such as fixed indexed annuities and single premium deferred annuities.

Prosperity is more lenient than most other burial insurance companies when it comes to underwriting. Where most other companies would offer a two-year waiting period for certain medical conditions, Priority will offer immediate coverage with no waiting period.

Why We Use Prosperity Life For Cigar Smokers

We like to use Prosperity for our cigar-smoking clients because they rate cigars, pipes, vape, and other non-cigarette products as non-tobacco. They only give a tobacco rating for cigarette smoking.

So if you smoke cigars or anything is non-cigarette, we can get you final expense burial insurance at a non-smoker rate.

Americo is one of the largest, independent, privately-held insurance companies in the United States and their family of companies has been around for more than 100 years.

They have two great final expense burial insurance products that we like to use for our cigar-smoking clients.

Eagle Premier Series and Ultra Protector Series

Americo Final Expense Products

Eagle Premier Series

With the Eagle Premier final expense policy, cigar smokers and cigarette smokers can qualify for non-smoker rates through Americo’s Quit Smoking Advantage plan.

The premiums are level for the life of the policy and their Accelerated Benefit Payment Rider is included at no additional cost.

The Accidental Death Benefit Rider pays double for accidental death and is also included at no additional charge.

The optional Children’s Term Rider can be added for $11 per $1,000 annually.

Americo’s Eagle Premier series offers a special program called the Quit Smoking Advantage.

What is the Quit Smoking Advantage?

If you’ve been wanting to quit smoking, this program encourages you to stop. This plan allows Smokers of any kind to receive an Eagle Premier Smoker policy with a Nonsmoker rate for the 1st three years.

Prior to the 3rd policy anniversary, if you can provide evidence (usually through a medical exam), that you haven’t smoked or used any nicotine/tobacco products for the past 12 months, your Death Benefit and premium will remain Level.

Does this apply to all types of Nicotine use?

Yes, A nonsmoker rating applies to anyone who hasn’t used Nicotine products including, but not limited to cigars, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff, pipes, nicotine patches, lozenges, nicotine chewing gum, vape or e-cigarettes for the past 12 months prior to the date the application was completed.

How will the policy be issued?

The Eagle Premier final expense policy will be issued as a Smoker policy with a Nonsmoker rate.

How soon after the policy is issued can I verify that I have quit smoking?

The soonest you can verify that you have quit smoking is 12 months after the policy anniversary as long as you have not used any nicotine products for 12 consecutive months.

How do I verify that I quit smoking?

If you provide evidence as determined by Americo that you have stopped using all forms of Nicotine products including, but not limited to cigars, cigarettes, chewing tobacco, snuff, pipes, nicotine patches, lozenges, nicotine chewing gum, vape or e-cigarettes and attest that you haven’t used nicotine within the last 12 months you will keep the Nonsmoker rate.

What happens if I don’t quit smoking?

If you don’t quit smoking, the Death Benefit amount will automatically decrease in year 4 and the premium will remain the same. The Accidental Death Benefit amount will also decrease in year 4. Instead of paying double the amount if death is a result of an accident, it will pay equal to the base death benefit amount.

In order to keep the same level of Death Benefit amount, you would need to pay a higher premium for the remainder of the policy. Must be requested before the end of the 3rd policy year.

If I quit smoking 9 months ago and the policy is issued today, can I apply for the Nonsmoker rate in 3 months?

The earliest you can request a change to a Nonsmoker rate is on or after the 1st policy anniversary and you must have not used any Nicotine products for 12 consecutive months after the policy is issued.

The Ultra Protector final expense burial policy provides day-one coverage and doesn’t require a medical exam. Cigars, smokeless tobacco, and pipe smoking may qualify as Nonsmoker.

For the Ultra Protector, Americo only counts cigarettes as tobacco use.

This plan is great for a variety of health conditions. For instance, clients with Emphysema and COPD can get day-one coverage.

The premiums are level for the life of the policy and their Accelerated Benefit Payment Rider is included at no additional cost.

You can add the optional Accidental Death Benefit Rider for an additional charge and the optional Children’s Term Rider can be added for $11 per $1,000 annually.
